Even With True Love, Olivier & Leigh
Suffered a Turbulent Marriage

When Laurence Olivier married Vivien Leigh on August 31, 1940 they were one of the most popular celebrity couples of the 20th century. He was the quintessential debonair leading man and she was the radiant and sultry leading lady. Both were coming off of huge Hollywood movie hits; he in "Wuthering Heights," she in "Gone With The Wind."

Folklore would have you believing this union led to a strong, enduring marriage full of passion and romance. Tragically, the truth is much more sobering. Their 20 year marriage was a quagmire full of infidelity, turmoil, illness, and discontent.

In the mid-40's Leigh was diagnosed with tuberculosis which greatly reduced her strength and stamina. Later, she was also diagnosed as manic-depressive and underwent numerous electro-shock treatments. Combined with occasional bouts of hysteria, and fits of rage, living with Leigh was an immense challenge for Olivier.

In 1949 and Leigh took up with actor Peter Finch as her lover. Leigh had a vindictive streak and in an effort to make Olivier the public cuckold, she would hold hands with Finch at parties. Olivier admits in his autobiography that he too had his share of indiscretions. During the remainder of their marriage the primary focus for both was their work. However, Olivier would continue to swoop in and pick up the pieces after Leigh suffered her mental meltdowns.

By 1957 Olivier had fallen in love and started a torrid affair with actress Joan Plowright. Soon thereafter Leigh fell in love with actor Jack Merivale. The Olivier-Leigh divorce was final on December 2, 1960.

Olivier quickly married Plowright on March 17, 1961 with whom he had three children. He stayed with her until his death on July 11, 1989. Leigh never married Merivale but he was her constant companion until her death on July 7, 1967. Upon hearing the news of Leigh's demise, Olivier, stricken with prostate cancer, checked himself out of the hospital to spend time with her before the mortuary came to retrieve her body. Using Magi Astrology you will be able to understand why, despite their love for one and other, Olivier and Leigh were destined for an unhappy coupling.

Magi Principle Four About Love states: Unless two lovers form at least one Romantic Super Linkage, there is only a small chance the two persons would actually ever marry.  Looking at the CAC below of Olivier (black planets) and Leigh (red planets) you can see they had a fabulous Romantic Super Linkages, and it propelled them right into marriage.

Olivier contributes Jupiter and Neptune, and Leigh contributes her Sun, Chiron, and Juno. Together they create a very powerful conjuncted grand trine containing multiple Romantic Super Linkages. As if that was not enough, Olivier's Chiron trines both Leigh's Venus and Saturn creating another Grand Trine and a Romantic Super Linkage. They were both swept away with a love so strong that both parties ended their preexisting marriages to create a life together.

Magi Principle Ten About Love states: No matter how much two persons love each other, and no matter how well their two astrological charts match up, if the two persons get married on a horrible astrological day, their marriage would still be tumultuous and stressful, and probably result in heartbreak. Happiness can be attained by getting married on a perfect astrological day, when the date is properly selected utilizing Magi Astrology.

An astrologically fortuitous wedding day is essential. However, it is also important that the Marriage Chart make equally fortuitous aspects to the charts of the Bride and Groom, rather than dreadful clashes, as is the case here.

Notice the Clash where the Marriage Chart Saturn is in opposition to Olivier's Neptune. A valid interpretation of this aspect is a destructive and disruptive (Saturn) romance (Neptune). Also notice in the declinations, the Marriage Chart Saturn-Neptune midpoint is contra-parallel Olivier's Chiron forming another troublesome clash.

Unfortunately for Vivien Leigh, the marriage date had an even more turbulent effect on her chart.

At first glance, the Marriage Chart Saturn opposed to Leigh's Sun, as well as the Marriage Chart Sun opposed to Leigh's Chiron is quite disconcerting. A deeper look reveals a treacherous bi-level aspect of the Jupiter-Saturn midpoint to the Sun. In longitudes it is opposed and in declinations it is contra-parallel.
